I printed off these images (which were mostly outlines) that I had created on Photoshop and filled them in with dashes and colour to create textures. However, I have decided not to use these drawings I no longer like the character and hope to design something better. I don’t feel like I can carry on with something that I dislike.
SPIDER PHONE

The spider phone is a ‘disease’ that my comic is going to be based around. It’s a metaphor for your phone clinging to you and not being able to let go.
MY IDEA
IDEA FOR COMIC:
Working in a restaurant I’ve noticed the lack of communication and relationships between people. I’ve had a lot of first hand experience in this: I see snipets of how anti social society is becoming and more connected to our screens.
Couples sat on their phones not saying a word to each other; taking photos of their food and not enjoying the moment for what it is. Kids and young children as young as 4 with headphones in, watching a movie at the table whilst their parents eat… Complete lack of interaction with anything. Dad on the phone whilst his children are throwing food across the restaurant and fighting with each other. And a mum too busy texting to see her child about to fall out of his chair.
I wanted to use my own experiences as inspiration for a comic. I would say I’m also addicted to my phone and I know I’m not the only one. We don’t know the effects yet but I do believe it could be very damaging, not just for our mental health but also physically. I wanted to make a humorous comic about this worry to shine a light on the problem but make it light hearted at the same time.
MUSEUM ART

My favourite piece from the museum was this abstract oil painting by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, published in 1977. He is known for his experimental compositions/collages. I like the overlaps of patterns and all the dotted lines to create the different shapes.
COMIC INSPIRATION
Today I went to the library to gather some inspiration from different comics. I really like the style from the 1930s-1950s. A lot of the imagery has a cool range of colours that compliment each other well. I am particularly fascinated with the many dots that make up a picture and add a texture and detail to the sections.
COMING UP WITH IDEAS

Yesterday was my first field of the second term. To generate some ideas we were given the task of making a comic based on 10 images we were given by our partner that they had taken form a book. As I was struggling for ideas this was a good way to get my mind on track.
